How We Teach

Better Thinking Before Better Answers.

Strong results begin with stronger thinking habits. Our lessons help students understand, reason, apply and explain — not simply memorise a method or model answer.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We do not just teach children how to get an answer.

We teach them how to understand what they are looking at, think through the problem, choose a strategy, explain their reasoning and apply what they have learned to unfamiliar questions.

That same principle runs through our English, Mathematics and High Ability programmes. The subject changes. The thinking habits stay consistent.

The Guru Kids Pro Learning Method

Understand. Think. Apply. Explain. Extend. Reflect.

A consistent learning cycle helps students move beyond memorisation and build habits they can use across subjects and school levels.

01

Understand

Students first make sense of the concept, question, text or task instead of rushing directly towards an answer.

02

Think

They identify patterns, relationships, evidence and possible strategies before deciding what to do next.

03

Apply

Students practise using the concept or strategy with clear guidance, then apply it independently.

04

Explain

They explain why an answer or method works. This helps teachers see whether the understanding is genuine.

05

Extend

Students meet unfamiliar or more challenging variations so the skill can transfer beyond one worksheet or one lesson.

06

Reflect & Correct

Misunderstandings are identified, corrected and followed by targeted practice so students know what to improve next.

One Method Across Different Subjects

The thinking process stays consistent even when the subject changes.

Mathematics

Understand the problem before choosing the method.

  1. Identify what the question is asking.
  2. Find the important relationships and information.
  3. Select a suitable strategy or representation.
  4. Solve and present the working clearly.
  5. Check whether the answer makes sense.
  6. Apply the method to a new variation.

English

Use evidence and language with purpose.

  1. Understand the text, question or writing task.
  2. Identify relevant evidence, ideas or language clues.
  3. Infer meaning and organise the response.
  4. Construct a clear answer or piece of writing.
  5. Explain why the response works.
  6. Improve weak answers through feedback and rewriting.

High Ability

Move comfortably into unfamiliar problems.

  1. Analyse information carefully.
  2. Recognise patterns and relationships.
  3. Compare more than one possible approach.
  4. Test assumptions and justify conclusions.
  5. Transfer reasoning into a new context.
  6. Reflect on whether a stronger solution is possible.

See the Method in Action

Show the thinking, not just the final answer.

These sections are designed for you to insert actual Guru Kids Pro materials, marked work or teacher-feedback examples in the Shopify editor.

Example 01 · Mathematics

From calculation to reasoning.

Use this space to show a real problem where the obvious calculation is not enough. Highlight the questions a teacher asks before the student begins solving.

What is the question really asking? Which information matters? What relationship can we see? How do we know the answer is reasonable?

Example 02 · English

From a weak response to a stronger one.

Use this space to show how teacher questioning and feedback helps a student improve an incomplete comprehension response or piece of writing.

What evidence supports the answer? What is still unclear or incomplete? How can the idea be expressed more precisely? What changed in the improved response?

Example 03 · Higher-Order Thinking

From familiar practice to unfamiliar challenge.

Use a pattern, reasoning, inference or non-routine task to show how students are encouraged to test ideas, compare possibilities and justify their choices.

What pattern can you see? Is there another possible explanation? What evidence supports your choice? Would your reasoning still work in a new context?

Curriculum Leadership

Teaching decisions should be grounded in how children actually learn.

Guru Kids Pro’s curriculum is led by Ms Katherine Law, an MOE-trained educator with a Master of Education in Gifted Education, a PGDE and more than 18 years of experience working with young learners.

Her experience across mainstream and high-ability learners shapes the way our programmes balance strong foundations, careful scaffolding and progressively more challenging thinking.

A Learning Journey From P1 to P6

The level changes. The thinking habits continue to grow.

P1–P2

Build Foundations

Establish strong language, number sense, classroom confidence, learning routines and the habit of explaining simple reasoning clearly.

P3–P4

Strengthen Application

Apply knowledge to multi-step questions, deeper comprehension, structured writing and more independent problem solving.

P5–P6

Master & Perform

Handle greater complexity, unfamiliar questions, examination demands and the accuracy needed for upper-primary performance.
